Orofacial Pain

Orofacial pain is a term used for pain in the mouth, jaws and face. It is a symptom for an underlying cause. It can be due to a dental related cause, various types of neuropathic pain (trigeminal neuralgia, glossopharyngeal neuralgia or neuropathic pain of unknown origin).

Persistent idiopathic facial pain is a recent term used to describe a pain of orofacial origin that does not have characteristics of neuralgias and does not fulfill any other criteria.
